Must Have Accessories for your ATV

ATV Essential Accessories Article From Destination Powersports

No matter where you take your ATV, how close to civilization you’ll be or how long you’ll be out riding, there are certain essentials that you should be bringing with you every time you head out on your quad. This can range from equipment that will help protect your vehicle to equipment that will help protect you from equipment that simply makes your outings less stressful.

There are certain accessories that we here at Destination Powersports believe should go on your essentials list, but you may want to add to this as you gain more experience either out on the trails or outperforming your daily work. If you want some additional advice from our experienced staff, stop by our location in Punta Gorda, Florida, near Fort Myers and Cape Coral. We proudly serve the entire state of Florida.

Winch

Regardless of how close to home or help you’ll be, a winch is a must-have. Getting stuck is not only scary, but it can throw a big wrinkle in any day of fun or a day that needs some extra productivity. A winch can get you back on track in no time with as little fuss as possible.

Emergency Kits

Speaking of getting stuck, there are additional emergency supplies you can have with you to help you out when you’re in a bind. This may be kits to help fix a small problem or put a figurative “band-aid” on a bigger problem until you can seek professional help. For any mechanical issues, consider bringing along a basic toolkit and spare parts, as are feasible. This may also include an air pump, vise-grips, zip ties, duct tape, swiss army knife, and anything else that might come in handy if you need to improvise on the trail.

You’ll also want to bring along a basic first aid kit in case you take a tumble while you’re out. This should include basic supplies to patch up small scrapes, but you’ll also want to consider packing ways to aid bigger wounds until you can find a doctor, if necessary.

Protective Gear

Now to look at how you can protect your body. One of the most important pieces of protective gear you’ll want to be wearing is a helmet. Even though you may feel fairly safe on the back of a quad, it’s easy to tip over and sustain serious injuries if you're not careful. But even if you feel you’re a careful trail rider, it’s best to wear proper protective gear, like a helmet. The right helmet should cover your entire face, including all of your head and your nose and mouth. Make sure it fits properly as well, meaning there’s no extra wiggle room and it won’t give you a headache after wearing it for a while. If your helmet does not come with a face shield, you’ll want to get some goggles, so your eyes are properly protected as well.

Beyond protecting your head, you’ll want to cover the rest of your body as well. Riding boots and gloves will make your outings more comfortable and cover your most vulnerable extremities. Long sleeves and long pants are also important, even if it’s hot out. Even the smallest debris can sting when it hits bare skin at full speed, so cover up.

Additional Storage

Having a hard time finding a place for all this equipment and anything else you’ll want to bring? Consider adding storage options, such as an extra box. Not only will this give you extra storage room, but it’ll be another way to keep your supplies dry, so it’s also a great place to store your phone and other electronics. You’ll also have more room to store overnight clothing, water, and food, if you know you’ll be outdoors for an extended period of time, like for a hunting trip.

We hope this helps get you started on preparing for your next ATV trip. Whether you prefer recreational fun or you have a task to accomplish while you’re off-roading, make sure you have all the essentials and any individual gear that specific to your needs and your outing. Make a packing list and add to it as you think of things so you’ll be more than ready when the big day arrives.
