Preventing Motorcycle Theft

Cover Up
Keeping your bike covered is helpful for security because it means a thief won't be able to see what model of bike it is without removing the cover. If you're parked in a big parking lot, they might just keep moving to the next bike that they can see. This may seem like a small advantage, but removing the cover can also draw attention to them and also make it more likely that they will get spotted.
Use Multiple Locks
There are multiple types of lock available to any motorcycle owner for keeping their bike safe. An ignition lock will make it impossible for them to turn the bike on without making major, time-consuming alterations. A brake lock attaches to the brake disc and is extremely difficult to remove. A steering lock will make it impossible to steer. And of course, a chain lock will lock the bike to a specific location, making it hard for thieves to put your bike on a trailer.
Alarms & Tracking Devices
Modern motorcycle security equipment includes alarms and tracking devices. Alarms help to draw attention to your bike if someone tries to steal it, while tracking devices send out a GPS signal which can be used to track your bike if it's ever stolen. These measures are somewhat more expensive than locks, but they can be very effective.
Invest in Quality Equipment
Whatever locks, alarms, or other devices you pick up, it's important to invest in quality equipment. This is one of those areas where you really don't want to sacrifice on quality. A well-designed lock will be extremely difficult to breach, and a high-quality alarm will be more sensitive and attract more attention.
Remove Accesories
While not as bad as getting your entire bike stolen, having accessories stolen off your bike can be extremely frustrating. Try taking your accessories with you after you park your bike. Another option that's effective if you have hard side saddlebags is to remove any accessories and store them in your saddlebags when you leave.
Find Secure Parking
Parking in the right location is a big part of motorcycle security. If possible, invest in secure off-street parking to keep your bike away from the crowds. If that's not a possibility, try to find a spot that has enough traffic that a thief won't have the courage to try to steal it. You can also try to park behind a truck or other big vehicle to shield your bike from the eyes of thieves.
Check Periodically When in Unfamiliar Territory
If you're forced to park your bike in a less-than-ideal spot, make sure you check on it occasionally. It's best not to personally confront anyone who might try to steal it, so make sure to have a phone handy to call the police if you interrupt someone trying to take it.
